Thursday, Feb. 28

Current Conditions
Temperature: 23°F
Feels Like: 12°F
Wind: 10 mph NE
Humidity: 62%

Today was a rather gloomy day. Cloudy conditions dominated the sky for the duration of the day, with temperatures that approached 30 degrees F. The jetstream map shows we are in an area that is a bit odd. The jetstream is forming a sort of ridge in our are, but with a spiraling pattern to the south near Milwaukee. Cloudy conditions will mostly likely stick with us throughout the day tomorrow with temperatures again near 30 F.

Wednesday, February 27

Current Conditions
Temperature: 30°F
Feels Like: 23°F
Wind: 7 mph NNE
Humidity: 64%

The weather conditions for today were mostly cloudy with the temperatures in the 30's. At around 2 p.m. I left work to find flurries coming down. The precipitation was short lived with no accumulation to speak of. There is not any real significant weather taking place around the country currently, just the remnants of the storm that ran south of us the last couple of days. Tomorrow's weather should be about the same as today, with a high near 30 and a chance of flurries.

Current Conditions
Temperature: 34°F
Feels Like: 28°F
Wind: 7 mph NNE
Humidity: 67%

Today's weather was darn near a carbon copy of yesterday's conditions. Mostly cloudy with a little bit of sunshine here and there with temperatures in the middle 30's. Tomorrow looks like it will probably follow suit  with cloudy conditions and temperatures in the mid 30's.

The jetstream looks a little bit odd compared to the usual. We have the jetstream coming from the northeast and circling up and around to end up flowing back to the east. The circle in northern Indiana is associated with the storm that has been moving trough the plains and is now over the northeast portion of the country form Chicago to the Atlantic Ocean shown in the map below.

Current Conditions
Temperature: 32°F
Feels Like: 31°F
Wind: 2 mph E
Humidity: 79%

Today's weather was similar to the weather we experienced throughout the weekend, mostly clouds with some sun and temperatures in the mid 30's. We did get a bit more sunshine over the weekend than we had today though. An area of high pressure, shown in the map below, will be in our area for the rest of the night and into tomorrow making for little to no chance of precipitation. There may however be some clouds due to winds from the north. Temperatures should be around what they were today with the high being in the upper 30's.

Current Conditions
Temperature: 25°F
Feels Like: 17°F
Wind: 6 mph WNW
Humidity: 85%

I awoke this morning around 10 a.m. to light snow and about 6-7 inches of accumulation that fell overnight. All and all Winter Storm Q was not quite what they expected it to be in terms of intensity, but we did get a decent amount of snow. The image below shows the remains of Q over Michigan and Lake Superior. The occluded front shows that the storm is all but over. There is a chance of snow tomorrow with cloudy conditions likely throughout the day. Highs should be about the same as today, in the mid to upper 30's.

Thursday, February 21, 2013

Current Conditions
Temperature: 20°F
Feels Like: 12°F
Wind: 6 mph NE
Humidity: 67%

Today's weather was nothing too exciting. Sun peaking through in the morning gave way to clouds in the afternoon, with highs reaching the middle 20's. The real weather story is the incoming Winter Storm Q that has been talked about over the last few days. This storm is headed toward us from the south and should hit us sometime in the early a.m. hours. There is a chance of snow from then until late morning Saturday. Estimates for snow accumulation is anywhere from 3-8 inches.

Current Conditions
Temperature: 14°F
Feels Like: 8°F
Wind: 4 mph NNE
Humidity: 55%

This morning started out just like yesterday ended, very cold. Temperatures warmed up by mid day though, almost reaching 20 degrees F. Conditions were mostly sunny throughout the day with a cloud here and there.  Tonight could dip down into the negatives yet again, which is not a good thing for my heating bill. Tomorrow should be a bit cloudier than today and warm up a little with highs in the mid 20's. By tomorrow night we could be experiencing the effects of Winter Storm Q that has been traveling through the western half of the country over the week. Most of the expected snow will probably arrive on Friday.

Winter storm Q is currently over the central part of the country, bringing snow to the Rockies and the Great Plains. A warm front coming from the Gulf of Mexico will likely provide the storm with more power as it heads our way.

The jetstream shows a trough coming down trough Colorado and into New Mexico. The jetstream looks like it will be bringing Winter Storm Q directly to us from Colorado, Kansas and Nebraska. The only question is how intense the storm will be when it reaches us. I will keep the blog updated in the days to come.

Current Conditions
Temperature: 7°F
Feels Like: -8°F
Wind: 12 mph NW
Humidity: 45%

Today's weather was definitely cause for some yearning for the warmer weather in the (hopefully close) future. Temperatures in the middle single digits all day along with wind chills in the negative teens made for brutal conditions for anyone daring to venture outdoors for any sort of extended period of time. The trough in the jet stream that we experienced yesterday was hear as well today and was the cause of the frigid temperatures. Tomorrow should be a bit warmer, even making it to the double digits. Conditions should be mostly sunny.

Current Conditions
Temperature: 26.7°F
Feels Like: 12°F
Wind: 21 mph WNW
Humidity: 73%

I first experienced the today's weather at about noon when I left for class. I was surprised by how warm it was, around 36 degrees F. Temperatures started to cool off slowly from there, but stayed steady in the lower 30's. Leaving class at 4:15 I noticed that there was currently snow falling and that by the look of the walks it had been for a little while before that as well. An area of low pressure to our north is most likely the cause of the precipitation. Overnight forecasts suggest that we could see around an inch of new snow accumulation by tomorrow morning. Strong winds from the north should cause temperatures to dip significantly, into the single digits most likely, and also make tomorrow much colder than today with highs in the single digits or lower teens.

The low pressure system over Lake Superior looks to be the center of mid latitude cyclone. Judging by the occluded front at the center I would say this system is losing energy and on its way out.

Right now we are in a trough of the jetstream. To the west there is also a trough that is extending down trough Oregon and California. This trough is bringing with it a cold and moist air mass from off the coast of Vancouver. This will bring snow to much of the west reaching as low as middle California. This storm has been named Winter Storm Q. Throughout the week this storm is projected to move east and bring significant snowfall to the much of the country, including us by about Friday. I will track the progress of this storm as it progresses.

Current Conditions
Temperature: 13.1°F
Feels Like: 6°F
Wind: 4 mph W
Humidity: 54%

Conditions throughout the day today were mostly sunny with some clouds passing through from time to time. Temperatures were in the mid teens, which seemed a bit chilly after the few days of above freezing temperatures we had been experiencing. High pressure air masses to our west should work their way toward our area for tomorrow and maybe the next day. This should mean more sunny conditions. The jetstream is still sending cold air from the north our way, so temperatures should stay in the general range they were today.

Thursday 2-14-13

Current Conditions
Temperature: 12.6°F
Feels Like: 0°F
Wind: 9 mph NW
Humidity: 60%

Yesterday's weather was fairly steady and boring for the most part. Overcast conditions dominated the sky and temperatures were in the lower 30's. Today's weather should be a mix of sun and clouds. The map of the jetstream below shows that we are receiving winds from the N-NW and that should bring with it some colder conditions than we have seen over the last few days.

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

Current Conditions
Temperature: 33.2°F
Feels Like: 33°F
Wind:2 mph ESE
Humidi3y: 93%

Today's weather turned out much like I predicted yesterday. There was some sun early in the day with clouds taking over by 2 p.m. or so. Temperatures broke above the freezing point yet again today causing more sloppy conditions. Just recently ( around 9 p.m.) some light snow started. An area of low pressure is currently right over the Twin Cities right now. Light to moderate snow could fall for the rest of the night and is possible throughout the day tomorrow. Temperatures should stay steady in the low 30's until tomorrow night.

The cold air mass behind the front moving south and the warm air mass behind the front moving east look to be the indicators of a mid latitude cyclone with the low pressure system over the Twin Cities being the center.

Tuesday, February 12, 2013

Current Conditions
Temperature: 27.8°F
Feels Like: 27F
Wind: 2 mph WSW
Humidity: 85%

There was a high pressure air mass over our area today, bringing with it clear skies. Temperatures climbed over the freezing point again as well which made for sloppy conditions but helped eliminate a little bit of ice build up on the sidewalks and roads. Tomorrows weather looks like it will probably start out similar to today with mostly clear conditions, but southwest winds could bring with it moist air. Clouds may move into the area around mid day with precipitation possible.

Current Conditions
Temperature: 25.5°F
Feels Like: 25°F
Wind: 3 mph WSW
Humidi3y: 73%

I was unable to update my blog yesterday due to technical difficulties, but the weather was anything but boring. A storm system containing rain, snow, and most everything in between hit us for the better part of the day yesterday. Temperatures in the lower to mid 30's made for an interesting situation. Rain transitioning to freezing rain, transitioning to snow, and back and forth between the three began early morning. The precipitation subsided during the afternoon hours for the most part but continued again overnight producing more snow and rain. Conditions this morning were less than desirable on the roads. I even had to drive over an hour to pull a friend out of the ditch at 5 a.m. Today was much less eventful, with cloudy conditions and temperatures in the lower to mid 30's for the duration of the day.

The increasing barometric pressure throughout the day will probably lead to clear and sunny conditions tomorrow.

The jet stream is not creating any weather conditions of interest in our area, but the trough in middle of the country is producing cool conditions in the same area as cold northerly winds extend south.

A cold air mass moving south behind the front in the southeast is currently producing stormy conditions.

This map shows the forecast for the middle of the afternoon tomorrow. Stormy conditions should continue in the south, with a high pressure system moving our way bringing clear conditions.

Saturday, February 9, 2013

Current Conditions
Temperature: 27.7°F
Feels Like: 27°F
Wind: 3 mph S
Humidi3y: 83%

Eau Claire's weather was fairly boring for the most part. Mostly sunny conditions with a few clouds throughout. Temperatures made their way into the lower 30's. An area of low pressure is moving our way and may hit us throughout the day tomorrow. Temperatures in 30's could make the precipitation a little sloppy, so road conditions may suffer. Winter Storm Nemo dissipated over the northeast, with an area of high pressure and mostly clear conditions taking its place.

Friday, February 8, 2013

Current Conditions
Temperature: 16.9°F
Feels Like: 11°F
Wind: 4 mph ESE
Humidity: 68%

Today's weather was relatively boring in our area. An area of high pressure produced mostly sunny conditions with highs in the 30's. The area of high pressure should stay with us through tomorrow with sunny conditions prevailing once again. The northeast part of the country is experiencing weather that is much more eventful than we are. Winter Storm Nemo is currently hitting the northeast with Boston being right in the heart  of the storm. The storm is being created by an area of very low pressure sitting right off the coast. The low pressure causes converging surface winds leading to rising air that creates precipitation. Nemo should continue to hit the northeast into tomorrow.

Current Conditions
Temperature: 26.2°F
Feels Like: 26°F
Wind: Calm
Humidity: 76%

Today's weather was rather boring for the most part. Conditions were cloudy throughout the day, with temperatures in the upper 20's for the most part. The map below shows a significant amount of activity throughout the country, with storm systems in the southeast and a snow storm moving toward the northeast. Us in Wisconsin are in a rather boring part of the country weather wise with a high pressure system in our area and moving our way. Tomorrow should be mostly sunny with temperatures similar to the last few days in the 20's.

Wednesday, February 6, 2013

Current Conditions
Temperature: 26.4°F
Feels Like: 21°F
Wind: 5 mph East
Humidity: 81%

Yesterday started out with some flurries then was cloudy until early afternoon when the sun came out. Temperatures were in the mid 20's throughout the day. This morning when I went to work at 8 a.m. the temperature was quite cold, around -4 or -5. As the morning led into mid day the temperatures got up to the mid 20's similar to the last couple of days. Instead of the late-night/early-morning snow showers that have been common over the last week today there was snow between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for the most part and produced around 2 inches of new snow. An area of  low pressure in our area could bring some converging surface winds causing the air to rise and produce precipitation over tonight and tomorrow.

Current Conditions
Temperature: 10.2°F
Feels Like: 10°F
Wind: Calm
Humidity: 62%

I woke up this morning to a fresh inch or two on the ground as I left for classes, which seems to be a running theme over the past few nights/mornings. Today, again, was very similar to the last few days. Conditions were partly to mostly cloudy with the sun peaking through at times. I did not experience much of any wind to speak of while I was outside at any point today. Temperatures were relatively chilly still, hovering in the lower teens for the day. The map below shows some precipitation heading our way overnight yet again, with light snow likely. We may even see a little accumulation, likely less than three inches.

Current Conditions
Temperature: 13.0°F
Feels Like: 13°F
Wind: Calm
Humidity: 64%

I didn't spend much time outside today, but when I did it seemed very familiar. Just like the last few days, today was sunny and cold in large part. Temperatures were in the lower to middle teens at their high. The map below shows some precipitation moving through just before midnight here. Some light snow is starting now and should continue for about the next hour or so with little accumulation likely. A high pressure system is moving our way so tomorrow should be mostly clear and sunny.

Saturday, February 2, 2013

Current Conditions
Temperature: 11.1°F
Feels Like: 11°F

Wind: Calm
Humidity: 62%

Today was similar to yesterday, both were clear and sunny for the most part with cold temperatures down to  the single digits and lower lingering once more. Last night showed snow flurries around 9 p.m. and the precipitation shown on the map below to our southwest could hit us with some snow in the overnight hours. Tomorrows conditions look to be similar to the last couple of days, being mostly clear and cold with a slight chance of snow.
