Current Conditions
Temperature: 31°F
Feels Like: 28°F
Wind: 4 mph NE
Humidity: 50%

The weather throughout the weekend was a bit up and down. Friday was a very nice day actually with sunny skies and temperatures almost reaching 50 degrees F. As the day progressed on Friday I noticed that patchy cirrus clouds slowly turned to some alto-level clouds and by the nightfall stratus clouds had moved in. This told me that precipitation of some sort was in store for Saturday. Sure enough I woke up to rain. The rain persisted throughout the day, coming down quite hard at times. Some lingering showers were in the area today as well, even shifting to snow a little after noon for about an hour. The image of the jet stream below shows that we are in a trough right now. The direction of the jet stream should bring northwest winds, and cold air with it. The current conditions map below the jet stream image shows an area of high pressure to our northwest, so the jet stream should bring us some cold and relatively clear conditions tomorrow.

Current Conditions
Temperature: 30°F
Feels Like: 30°F
Wind: Calm
Humidity: 56%

Today actually felt like spring, besides all the snow on the ground I mean. Sunny with temperatures in the lower 40s made for an enjoyable day. Not much to speak of for weather around the country. More high pressure in many areas, but there is some low pressure over the Rockies. High pressure moving our way should again provide us with some sunshine. Temperatures may reach into the 40s again tomorrow also.

Current Conditions
Temperature: 33°F
Feels Like: 33°F
Wind: 3 mph W
Humidity: 52%

Today's weather was a virtual carbon copy of yesterday's. Skies were partly cloudy with plenty of sunshine throughout the day and temperatures got into the upper 30s. High pressure throughout the country right now makes for boring weather conditions, clear and sunny. The image of the jet stream below shows a relatively straight path with a slight trough over the east coast and a ridge over the Rockies. High pressure out west should mean that we will experience weather similar to the last couple of days tomorrow.

Current Conditions
Temperature: 28°F
Feels Like: 28°F
Wind: 2 mph NW
Humidity: 61%

Today was a pretty pleasant day weather wise with mostly sunny skies with a few clouds here and there. Temperatures even got a few degrees above freezing. We'll need more than a couple more days of weather like this for it to look like spring. Slowly but surely this snow has to melt at some point though. The map below shows an area of high pressure to our west. This should bring us more sunny conditions over the next few days. Temperatures will likely stay about the same as well.

Current Conditions
Temperature: 31°F
Feels Like: 30°F
Wind: Calm
Humidity: 74%

On my way to class this morning a little before 8 there was some snow falling, enough to make it quite difficult to see as the snow flew into my eyes while riding my bike. The snow didn't last long and there was no real accumulation to speak of. The rest of the day was mostly cloudy with the sun peaking out before sunset. Tomorrow will probably be partly cloudy with the area of precipitation shown over North Dakota on the map below making possibly making its way to our area toward the end of the day.

Current Conditions
Temperature: 21°F
Feels Like: 21°F
Wind: Calm
Humidity: 66%

With an area of high pressure over Eau Claire all day we saw clear sunny skies. With the daylight savings time now in effect and the sunny conditions the day seemed to last longer than normal. It made it feel as though Spring is almost here. But then I looked at the 18 inches of snow on the ground and the forecast that calls for more snow over the next few days and I realized that Spring is still a ways out... The current conditions map below shows some precipitation to our west that could hit us around sunrise.

The lower image of the two is a water vapor map with concentrated areas shown in green. The jet steam is coming from the northwest and could bring the water vapor that in the Vancouver, Canada region our way in the next few days and give us some more snow that I know we are all hoping for.

Current Conditions
Temperature: 21°F
Feels Like: 11°F
Wind: 9 mph N
Humidity: 62%

Today's weather started out with some stratus clouds in the morning, but much of the cloud cover cleared up by early afternoon. Mostly sunny skies with some small clouds scattered around. I just got in from outside (about 9 p.m.) and there was some light snow falling. The map below shows a an area of high pressure moving in which should lead to stable atmospheric conditions and sunny skies tomorrow.

Current Conditions
Temperature: 27°F
Feels Like: 20°F
Wind: 6 mph W
Humidity: 70%

Winter Storm Triton was in full force early this morning and ended for the most part around noon with a total new snow accumulation of around 7 or 8 inches. Flurries continued until around 3 p.m. with stratus clouds remaining for the rest of the day. The map below shows the jet stream with Eau Claire being in a trough. This trough should keep temperatures cooler than average for this time of year, with the high being in low 30's for the next couple of days. Clouds should linger throughout tomorrow, with a slight chance of flurries.

Current Conditions
Temperature: 32°F
Feels Like: 21°F
Wind: 14 mph NNE
Humidity: 86%

Well, winter isn't over yet... We are currently right in the middle of a new winter storm, Winter Storm Triton. An area of low pressure is currently on the Illinois/Wisconsin border. I had noticed that we earlier today that stratus clouds were covering the skies, and we were experiencing some slight drizzle and flurries. I looked up the wind direction and it was coming from the NE. This told me that we would be experiencing more precipitation, most likely stronger than the flurries of early. Sure enough some snow started falling late afternoon and has slowly increased in intensity over the last few hours. Accumulation estimates range form 2-6 inches depending on the source. I will update the blog with storm totals tomorrow when precipitation clears.

urrent Conditions
Temperature: 40°F
Feels Like: 33°F
Wind: 10 mph SSE
Humidity: 58%

Yesterday's weather was very similar to the day prior, sunny with a high in the mid 30's. Today the weather has been virtually the same but the temperature has reached 40 F I believe. This continued nice sunny weather has been due to an omega high in the Jet Stream that can be seen in the image below. The omega high is moving through our area and we are currently on the back side. Looking at the sky a couple of minutes ago, I see that some cirrostratus clouds have moved in. These clouds combined with a significant SSE wind lead me to believe that precipitation will be in our forecast for the next 24 hours. Due to the temperatures being above the freezing point as of late, and the fact that the wind is coming from the south we could be seen some rain rather than snow.

Current Conditions
Temperature: 9°F
Feels Like: 1°F
Wind: 5 mph SW
Humidity: 88%

The weather today was pretty boring after the excitement that Winter Storm Saturn brought yesterday. An area of high pressure in over the Wisconsin and other parts of the country brought us sunny skies all day. The high pressure will stick around and should give us continued sunny skies. Temperatures didn't quite reach 30 F but tomorrow might just get a little above freezing.

Current Conditions
Temperature: 25°F
Feels Like: 17°F
Wind: 8 mph N
Humidity: 76%

Well, Winter Storm Saturn has officially come and gone. The storm never got as significant as most people thought it would, but we did get somewhere around 6 inches on new snowfall after it was all said and done. High pressure systems throughout the middle of the country will move our way overnight and should provide us with some nice sunny weather with temperatures increasing into the lower 30's for the next few days. I think I speak for most people in our area right now when I say that Spring cannot get here fast enough.

Current Conditions
Temperature: 27°F
Feels Like: 16°F
Wind: 14 mph ESE
Humidity: 57%

Winter Storm Saturn has arrived. I awoke this morning to altostratus clouds that formed into stratus clouds. The presence of the stratus clouds accompanied by a decently strong ENE wind indicated that precipitation should be on it's way soon. Light snow started around 2 p.m. and has been on off since. The wind is now coming from an ESE direction which means that we should be in for some significant snowfall tonight with the snowfall being heavy at times. According to several sources, our area should get anywhere from 6-12 inches through tonight into tomorrow afternoon.

The snow that is shown over Minnesota and our area is projected to track southwest to the Chicago area and then possibly head east and provide the Northeast with another significant winter storm.

US: Precipitation Forecast

The Eau Claire area is right near the border of the 3-6" and 6-12" snowfall ranges. It will be interesting to see how accurate the forecasts have been. I will update the blog tomorrow with snowfall totals from Winter Storm Saturn.

Sunday, March 3, 2013

Current Conditions
Temperature: 19°F
Feels Like: 10°F
Wind: 8 mph ENE
Humidity: 38%

This weekend's weather has been pretty decent. The sunny skies that an area of high pressure were very welcomed and the temperatures are slowly starting to warm their way to the point of average, middle to upper 30's for highs, for this time of year. Unfortunately, it looks as though we have not seen the last of winter yet. Winter Storm Saturn looks to be moving in from the Dakotas that will likely provide us with another snowfall starting late morning to early afternoon tomorrow and possibly sticking around into Tuesday. There is a Winter Storm Warning for Eau Claire, among other areas, starting 6 a.m. Monday and extending to 6 p.m. Tuesday. I will keep the blog updated with the progression of this storm over the next couple of days.
